Florence. It’s more than just the Gucci Museum.

It’s a gorgeous late summer day here in sunny southern California. The sky is blue, the ocean has an afternoon sparkle and I just got back in the house from a bit of gardening.  I’ve been “sharpening pencils” so to say, not doing chores.  Instead I’ve been skimming through my photos of my trips to Italy and this one caught my eye.  It looks like a similar bright sunny day, but this one warmed by the Tuscan sun… and this one is in Firenze (Florence).  The photo was taken from the Gucci Museum  and pretty much sums up the feeling that day.  Thanks for taking the time to view and read …. and if you like, you can also follow me on Instagram.

Tuscan Sunshine and Gelato

IMG_1156

Piazza Cisterna in San Gimignano gleams in the bright Tuscan sun. It’s a place that is well photographed by tourists and professionals alike – with good reason.  While you are there don’t miss the chance to grab some Gelato from the master at Dondoli.  If there is a line, it usually goes quickly and is very much worth the wait.  This photo is also featured on my Instagram account where I am posting my photos of my many trips to Italy.  Drop by and give it a look.

San Marco Basilica in Venice

IMG_3456Venice. The courtyard of the Doge’s Palace, facing the San Marco Basilica. It was such a hot – over 95 degrees – day with humidity soaring. But we were determined to see St. Mark’s Square. We just couldn’t leave Venice without it. I was lucky to be able to get this shot as the square itself was wall to wall people.  Next time I visit Venice, it will not be in the summer months…. this was early June.

This is the second photo marking my return to my website, http://www.italyandme.com  I have so much to share with you.  I now have a Facebook page and an active Instagram gallery. Read more

Cicchetti in Venice, A Tasty Treat

IMG_1815Hello. It’s me. Yes, it’s been awhile but I’m back!  Since I last posted I’ve been on many journeys.  Up and down in Spain, Tuscany and Rome again, Venice for the first time and to the Friuli region of Italy.   The photo above is from Venice where the Spritz reigns king. Here you can see some examples of traditional cicchetti – small snacks or side dishes.  They come in so many versions,  you could exist on cicchetti your entire trip and not get tired of it.  I’ve been posting quite a few photos these days on my Instagram account (@bethbeeman) of my travels.  Check it out if you have the time.  Meanwhile, I’m back here.  Great to reconnect.

Puglia Series: Night Comes to Lecce

Lecce 2 bbeeman

We embraced the evening as we did the beginning.  A cool wind whipped at our faces as we joined the locals in the evening passeggiata – a leisurely stroll around town – a nightly ritual performed throughout Italy. The cool stone radiated the warmth of the day. We shoved our hands deeper in our pockets and opened our faces to the magic. Puglia awaits.
